QUADRO Photography Club, the official eye of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines College of Communication (PUP COC), conducted a one-day photography seminar titled “Biyaheng Pitik: Ratsada’t Arangkada sa Kwento ng mga Litrato,” on June 16, at COC Audio-Visual Room.
Carrying the theme centered on a ‘biyahe’ concept, the seminar was designed to improve the quality of students’ photography skills, photography presentation at national conferences, and publication in reputable media and news organizations.
“Ginawa namin siyang ‘biyahe’ style or journey 'yung theme niya kasi parang kababalik pa lang din ng QUADRO sa pag-o-organize ng event. Kasi for the past two years, wala kaming masyadong nagawa since photography club kami, hindi kami nakalabas noong pandemic kaya wala kaming masyadong nagawa—parang ito 'yung pioneer event namin ulit after ng pandemic,” said Majoy Siscar, the QUADRO president.
Prominent speakers Fernando Sepe Jr., Vivian Valdez, and Noel San Andres from ABS-CBN News, PonD News Asia, and Press Photographers of the Philippines, respectively, served as subject-expert resource speakers moderating three sessions, namely: “Photography Basics” and “The Language of the Image” for the first session and second session, and “Visual Literacy” for the final session.
“S'yempre 'yung QUADRO ay hindi lang basta photography club, yung parang picture [o] selfie ganiyan for IG—hindi lang kami basta photography club—[photojournalism] ang aming advocacy,” Siscar added, explaining why they chose these lecture topics presented in the forum.
The event was attended by various student participants from different programs in COC.
“The event opened my eyes to authentic photojournalism. I also realized the need for more journalists, storytellers—not just through words, but also through photographs,” Xyruz Barcelona, a BA Journalism freshman, remarked.
Before concluding the event, QUADRO also leads an roundtable discussion, providing students a platform to ask relevant questions to the speakers for a chance to earn a Graphic Expo 2023 ticket from Valdez.
