The Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting (BABr) and Bachelor in Advertising and Public Relations (BAPR) proved that they got game both on and off the court, after toppling other teams in โ€œThe Divergent Athletics: Battle of Factionsโ€ last July 4, 5, 7, and 8 at the ASAC and Teresa Covered Court.

The BABr Broadcasting Angels and Broadcast Blazers survived three-set thrillers against the BACR CommRes Chill Crammers and BAPR Sugarheyheyy, July 7.

Meanwhile, BAPR Warriors ended the hopes for a three-division sweep after holding off a relentless BABr Broadgangsters team last July 8.

Kristine Rose Hoylar led the Broadcast Blazers with 14 points off of 10 attacks and four aces to keep Sugarheyheyy at bay, 25-18, 13-25, 15-9.

Hoylar noted that winning was not one of the teamโ€™s top priorities since their squad was formed weeks before the sports festival and relied on their spirit to bring them home to the promised land.

โ€œHindi naman namin hinahangad manalo bawat game, ang lagi naming priority ay mag-enjoy,โ€ said Hoylar.

โ€œSiyempre โ€˜yung bonding din namin kasi mga bago ko lang sila kakilala. โ€˜Yung iba sa amin, first time ko lang makasama. So, hindi siya adjustment; more on spirit, more on puso.โ€

Hoylar also led the Broadcast Blazers on the 10-0 run that stunned Sugarheyheyy during the elimination round.

BABr was trailing in the first set, 18-15, before running the same script with a late 10-0 rally off of aces by Hoylar and Dauphne Lozanoโ€™s attacks.

But Sugarheyheyy thwarted any early celebration as the team found its rhythm in the second set, crushing the Blazers with a 13-5 run.

Hoylar and her crew regrouped in the third set as they managed to protect a slight margin against BAPR before Sugarheyheyy committed costly errors down the stretch.

It was a nip-and-tuck affair between BABr and BACR, as the Broadcasting Angels escaped with a 25-22, 23-25, 15-12 victory.

Both sides went all out from the get-go before BABr sparked a 6-1 blitz and survived a last-ditch effort from Louise Bautista and Charles Cunanan.

Broadcasting Angels team captain Summer Lunar led the early assault against the CommRes Chill Crammers with another 6-1 opener.

But BACR regained its composure as they answered with a 10-0 run led by Patrick Bizares and Huan Meg Ambrocio.

The Angels thrived from BACRโ€™s late-game blunders, as it was enough to provide them with the extra cushion.

BABr made some adjustments in the third set after the lackluster performance in the previous.

โ€œNawalan kami ng receive kasi nagulo 'yung receiving pattern namin. Ang ginawa namin, hindi muna kami nag-libero at nag-middle blocker muna kami ng receive,โ€ said Niel Angelo Taรฑamor.

Angelo Torreรฑa was named the finals MVP after coming up with crucial plays in the game.

An undermanned BAPR Warriors made sure that BABr would not get all the glory, toppling the Broadgangsters, 92-87, last July 8.

Finals MVP Joseph Barnachea, who also drilled the game-winning free throws against the Broadgangsters in the elimination round, led the team with 32 points and four assists.

Russell Santos made his presence known in the paint, finishing with a double-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocks, while John Edillor added 15 markers and six dimes, and Simon Luna with 13.

Despite arriving late and having no time for warm-up, Barnachea stayed ready and was hot from beyond the arc, knocking down five triples.

โ€œTraining lang talaga para makuha ang shooting, para sa lahat talaga eh. Wala naman ganoโ€™n na talented, nakukuha talaga sa hard work.โ€

Edillor added that he instructed his team to stay prepared and rested since they did not have proper team practice before the event.

Barnachea and Edillor commended their teammates for the balanced scoring despite lacking bodies to throw at in their rotation.

The Warriors had an answer for every attempt to come back by the Broadgangsters.

Andrei Maybituin drilled a late trey to keep BABr within striking distance, 84-87 before Carey Bayno missed two crucial free throws.

Bayno scored more than half of the Broadgangstersโ€™ points with 26 each.

Barnachea, Luna, Bayno, and Maybituin were all announced as part of the mythical team, including Kritz Jynel Banico of the BACR Rizzearchers.
